How many integers greater than 99 and less than 1000 have at least one digit that is a zero?
The anwer is 171 but I don\'t understand how they got it. Thank you. RevDrBob@aol.com

atta 		The total difference of the numbers between 99 and 100 is 800 subtracting this by the succeeding numbers 800-700 + 70 + (1) = 19 * 9 = 171.

Sorry, I goofed!!!
the original problem says less than 1000, which is upto 999. So Matherapist;s answer of 171 is correct!

Matherapist's answer of 171 is up to 999, then 1 must be added for the last number of 1000. So the total numbers with at least one zero should be 172. rajbaba78.

matherapist 		Take each group of integers from 100-199 , 200-299 etc and count the number of integers with atleast 1 zero.

For the group 100-199 we have 100 thru 109 which is 10 integers with 0's, and 110,120...190 which give us 9 more so we have 19 integers with zero in the goup 100-199

There are 9 groups of these for each group starting with 100,200.......900

so 19 x 9=171
