The Holy Bible (John 11:30-44) tells about the death of Jesus dear friend, Lazarus. Mary and Martha, Lazarus' sisters, were disciples and very close friends of Jesus Christ, as was Lazarus. Mary told Jesus that if he had been there when their brother had been sick, that Jesus could have healed him, and he would not have died. Jesus, knowing the pain that his sisters and their friends were experiencing, "Gave way to Tears". Then after praying to his Heavenly Father, Jesus called with a loud voice to Lazarus, who was in the tomb, saying, "Come on out.". The account continues, "The man who had been dead for four days came out with his countenance bound about with a cloth." Thus, Jesus had brought his dear friend Lazarus back to life. What a wonderful, loving friend Jesus had been to Lazarus, Mary, and Martha, and he demonstrated this by resurrecting Lazarus. What is the lesson in this for us who are living today? In the near future when this system comes to an end, and the paradise that Adam lost by sinning is re-established here on the earth, a resurrection of our loved ones who have died will be brought back to life. What joy this will bring to us as well as our loved ones!

Actually, Lazarus was a friend of Jesus, but because he was a disciple of Jesus he was his spiritual brother. All who are a part of the Christian congregation regard their spiritual family as brothers and sisters, although they are not fleshly relatives.

He isn't related at all, except as a friend. He and his two sisters, Mary and Martha, were very good friends of Jesus while he lived on earth. They often provided a place for him to stay. It was Lazarus who he raised from the dead in John 11 in the Bible.

I think it is wonderful when tutors give the questioner a straight answer to a straight question without the added proselytizing.

According to what I read within the new Testement, there were two different persons named Lazarus. The Lazarus that was raised from the dead where he was dead for four days before hand, was the brother of Martha and Mary "Magdalene" who lived in Bethany near Jerusalem. This Lazarus was not a direct blood relative to Jesus but a friend of his. Note that the name Magdalene was contraversel in terms of which revision from the holy bible given.

My reading of John's Gospel, Chapters 11-12, is that Jesus and Lazarus were the very best of friends. Lazarus was brother of Martha (the busy one in the kitchen) and of Mary (the one who sat at Jesus's feet instead of helping out in the kitchen). I don't see any blood relationship, such as Jesus being cousin to John the Baptist. The Lazarus in Luke 16 is a beggar who is used to tell a story and appears to be a totally different person from Jesus' good friend in John. Jesus was so close to the Lazarus of John's Gospel that he actually broke down and cried when hearing of his death.
