Specialized ependymal cells are found within the area postrema (the part of the brain that controls vomitting). These specialized ependymal cells differ slightly from the majority of ependymal cells (or ependymotes) forming a unicellular lining of the ventricles (cavities in the brain) and the central canal of the central nervous tissue/system. These specialized ependymal cells are one of the four types of the neuroglial cells (also called glial cells).
