If you wanted to gather information about William Shakespeare and his family, you would go to the library or a book store to find a biography of him and his family. Would it not be similar if you wanted to find answers about God and his Son. The best answers that you can find are in the Bible, God's message to man. It simply begins with the creation of his first Son. He said: 'Let us make man in our image." Gen. 1:26 Thus continued the marvelous creation of the universe including man (Adam) and his wife (Eve). They both chose to disobey God. Read the third chapter of Genesis. Thus began the problems that mankind has suffered for thousands of years. However this will not continue forever. His purpose is to clean all wickedness off the earth, and those who choose to obey him have a wonderful future of life in perfect conditions in a paradise. Rev. 21: 3, 4, Isaiah 65: 17-25. These scriptures in a simple way explain man's responsibility in connection with God's sovereignty. It doesn't take any highly intelligent person to understand this. Neither does anyone need to use high sounding speech to talk about or to explain this. After all, if "God is Love" (1 John 4:8) would he make things difficult for us to understand? Or would he make it difficult for us to obey him? I don't think so! And wouldn't he help us all of the way?

I believe that answers on this site ought to be generic, based on our common humanity, without proselytizing for any one denomination.
Also, it would appear that our broken world is in need of more GOD-ACTION and less GOD-TALK. Even the devil can quote Scripture.

God's sovreignty or his rulership was established in the Garden of Eden. Jehovah, (God's name Ps. 83:18) created the first man and woman and placed them in the garden. "And God blessed them and God said to them, be fruitful and multiply and replenish the earth, and subdue it; and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.'" (King James) However, the serpent (Satan the devil, Rev. 12 :9) induced Eve to eat of the "tree that is in the middle of the garden" (Gen. 3:3,4). This was a prohibition that Jehovah had given to Adam say, "As for the tree that is in the middle of the garden you must not eat from it that you do not die". (Gen. 2: 16, 17) When Eve offered some of the fruit to Adam, he also ate from that prohibited tree. Thus began the struggle for Satan the Devil to establish himself as god. Because of their disobedience Adam and Eve died and returned to the dust as God said. And because of their sin, Adam and Eve have passed down their sinfulness and imperfection to all of humankind including all of us living today. However, because Jehovah is the 'most high over the earth" he will in the near future make great changes for those who choose to be faithful through the sacrifice of his "Only begotten son" . It is time for him to fulfill the first prophecy in the Bible. (Gen 3:15) He will soon as prophecied in the Bible undo all of the harm caused by Satan the devil. His time is very near to destroy the wicked and bring back paradasaic conditions on the earth where those faithful can benefit from his great love. His King, Christ Jesus, will rule for one thousand years over the earth. (Rev, 21;3,4) Thus He will be vindicated as the truth teller. And that paradise will continue forever. His sovreignty will never be brought into question again!

GOD / man = ethics, centering, social connectedness. God is sovereign over men's hearts and minds...Man has the responsibility to listen for God and act in His image.

P.S.
Beware the Biblical and literalistic fundamentalists who praise Biblical knowledge but put down man's knowledge.
God created BOTH man and the Bible. Genesis makes that clear. In fact, the Bible is God speaking the word through men (and women)- both of whom God created. God created the secular world just as much as the spiritual word- as our body and soul indicate.
And who did the Father choose to reveal Himself? Jesus the MAN-GOD.
So don't let anyone put down what God has created. As the apostle Paul reminds us- all we need do is look around at the beauty of creation to know that God exists.
Finally, for those of us who quote Scripture while avoiding secular truths- I am reminded that the Devil Himself is excellent at quoting Sacred Scripture. It's how we live our lives in both secular and religious worlds that determines our salvation. We need less God-Talk and more God-Action.

How to reconcile God's sovereignty and man's responsibility? It doesn't get any more thought-provoking than this.
After several years of wrestling with this, my take is as follows:
* God is all-powerful.
* And yet, God chose to limit God's own power by (1) creating a world that is susceptible to CHANCE (earthquakes) and (2) giving humans free will. Without free will there can be no choice and without choice there cannot be love.
*In answering the question as to WHY BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE (why is there evil in the world), author and Rabbi Harold Kushner stated that EITHER GOD IS NOT ALL POWERFUL or GOD DOESN'T GIVE A HOOT WHAT HAPPENS TO US.
* Kushner opted for a CARING God who chose to limit Self by giving humans free will (to love or to sin) and by allowed chance in the universe (hurricane damage); and so physical evil and moral evil comes from chance and from free will- and not from God.
And so the sovereign God does not CAUSE human and physical evil but does ALLOW it.
It's a tough concept that God would limit self with CHANCE and with FREE will but the book of Genesis and common sense appear to confirm both.
A family example: a parent gives up his sovereign authority to keep his daughter home from the prom. But will she ever grow if he does not give her some space to grow? No. And so Dad lets go and gives her freedom to go to the prom. If she drinks and drives her auto into a serious accident on the way home, whose choice was it? Should he have locked her in her room forever? Granting freedom is risky but a necessary one if folks are to grow and love.
Another example: Picture a photographer on the roof of a building; from her vantage point, she can see that two cars coming around the corner are going to crash. In their limited view, the drivers do not see it but the phtographer does. The viewer on top of the building does not cause the crash but she sees it. In that sense, the photographer is sovereign in knowledge but still not the cause of the crash.
Hope this helps.
P.S. I highly recommend RABBI HAROLD KUSNHER'S BOOK (WHEN BAD THINGS HAPPEN TO GOOD PEOPLE.)

I think the question you intended to ask was, "How does one reconcile God's sovereignty and man's responsibility?"

Paul deals with this question in the New Testament in Romans 9, and gives God's summary answer to someone who hypothetically asked it. In verses 19-21 he says, "You will say to me then, 'Why does He still find fault, for who resists His will?' Oh man, who indeed are you to answer back to God? The thing formed will not say, will it, to the one who formed it, 'Why did you make me so?' Or doesn't the potter have authority over the clay to make from the same lump one vessel for honor and one for dishonor?"

You may have to read these verses in the context of the entire chapter to confirm that Paul is addressing exactly your question.

God's summary answer in these verses is, "Who are you to challenge God with this question?" This answer is consistent with the general direction taken in the Bible that knowledge and understanding are given to the one who is willing to obey the Lord in what He has already revealed, and not necessarily to the one who is merely seeking to satisfy intellectual curiosity. In other words, in God's economy as revealed in the Bible, knowledge is primarily a moral issue -- not an intellectual one.

Another example of this principle is found in John 7:17, where Jesus said, "If anyone is willing to do His [God's] will, he will know concerning the [His] teaching whether it is from God or whether I speak from myself." Notice again that knowledge is promised to the one who is willing to obey God.

What I have written below is a complete and well-rounded basic answer to the question, "How does one reconcile God's sovereignty and man's responsibility?" It answers the question using Biblical priorities rather than man's.

"How does one reconcile God's sovereignty and man's responsibility?" The Biblical answer is, "Exercise your responsibility to trust and obey Him in His sovereignty."

Here's the sovereignty part: Specifically, He has sovereignly declared that:
1. He is the creator of all (Genesis 1-3), and
2. as Creator, He is King over all (Psalm 24:1,2), and
3. as King, He is Judge over all (Acts 17:31), and
4. as Judge, He has already judged you and me for not fulfilling our only created purpose of seeking Him, for not loving Him with all our hearts, mind and strength, for having gone astray, turning from His perfect way to our own (Isaiah 53:6; John 3:19; Romans 3:10-18)
5. the penalty is eternal separation from God in the lake of fire (Revelation 20:11-15),
6. He has provided a Way to avoid this judgment altogether (John 3:18).

Here's both the sovereignty and our responsibility: To avoid the judgment, He has sovereignly declared that you and I are responsible to:
1. accept by faith and admit that we deserve the judgment and penalty,
2. decide that we want to turn from our own rebellious path and be right with Him on His terms, submitting to Him as Lord (Matthew 4:17; Acts 17:30),
3. believe in Jesus Christ -- that He rose from the dead and is that very Lord we decided to obey (Romans 10:9,10)
4. believe in Jesus Christ -- believe His words and trust His promises.

Here's the greatest sovereignty part of all: To anyone who turns to Christ in this way, He has sovereignly promised:
1. forgiveness of all sin (Acts 10:43)
2. re-birth into a new life that CAN please God (John 3:3)
3. eternal life beginning now and extending on into Heaven with Him forever, and a complete escape from the judgment and eternal punishment (John 3:16-18; 5:24)
4. the presence of His Holy Spirit to comfort believers (John 14:16,17) and teach us more about our beloved Lord Jesus Christ (John 14:26)

I sincerely hope and pray that you will exercise this responsibility in the light of His sovereignty and receive all the blessings that will follow.
