three meat mincing machines

A butcher has three mincing machines, A, B, C, and a box of meat.
Machines B + C can mince the meat in 36 minutes,
Machines A + C can mince the meat in 60 minutes, and
Machines A + B can mince the meat in 30 minutes.

The problem is not difficult given either set of numbers if you change minutes to hours. No calculator required. fractions are a part of life.

math_fanatic says she didn't like fractional answer?
I changed the numbers to get a whole number of 30 minutes for the following revised problem:
Machines B+C does the job in 45 minutes
Machines A+C does the job in 60 minutes
Machines A+B does the job in 36 minutes
All machines together will do the job in 30 minutes. It will be a good exercise to find this answer.
The initial problem slightly revised was taken from the book :
PROBLEM SOLVING THROUGH RECREATIONAL MATHEMATICS, which gave the answer without solving it.. Same answer as math_fanatic found. I revised the numbers to get a whole number of 30 minutes as its answer. If need be, I will put the solution here some other time. It is easy and short solution. rajbaba78.

Raj,

This is very similar to a problem you submitted on 12/13/2009 (3 workers A,B, and C), so why repeat it?
You know how to solve it, Math-fanatic and I know how to solve it (It's a standard work problem that needs to be set up properly 1/B+1/C=1/.6hr =5/3 etc) get 3 eqns, add, divide by 2 and you are done.

However, I'm curious how the appropriate amount of meat would be fed to the 3 grinders. The problem would be more interesting if you asked How many units (lbs,Kg) of meat per machine to make N units of ground meat with all grinders working the same amount of time. I'm too lazy to formulate this.

You have stated why you do this. If you want to help students, then supply the answer. If it's an exercise for tutors, state that in the problem. It might keep Dr Bob from thinking everyone is cheating and lazy.

I don't know what Dr. Bob means, and I don't see details of calculations done by nath_fanatic on three mincing machines.

Doctor Bob
Raj,
When I ask for help on AOL or when I ask my doctor for advice or when I ask my lawyer for suggestions, all of them ask me: "Bob,what have you tried so far?"
I think they ask me that question to be sure that I am partnering with them in a solution.
And so, rather than spoon-feed you the answer at this time, I ask you: "Raj, what have you tried so far?"

Annoying problem. The answer is 25 and 5/7 minutes. If you're gonna make up a problem at least
make it so the numbers come out evenly.
