Volume = length x width x height.
2 x Volume = 2 x (length x width x height) = 2 x length x width x height = length x 2 x width x height = length x width x 2 x height. So, from this you can see that you only have to double one of the parameters: either double the length, OR double the width, OR double the height. You cannot double each one of the 3 parameters. You only double one of them. And that's how you'll get double in volume (of the fish tank). It's just a simple math or algebra. You can try it with numbers too:
2 x 3 x 4 = 24
24 x 2 = 48
(2 x 3 x 4) x 2 = 48
(2 x 2) x 3 x 4 = 48, or: 2 x (2 x 3) x 4, or: 2 x 3 x (2 x 4) === 48.
So, you only duplicate one of the parameters, one of the sides of the fish tank.

To double this volume, it can be done by expanding the height, width,length, or any combination.

The volume of a rectangular tank can be calculated using the formula below:
V = length x width x height

To double the volume you need to double any one dimension, not all.

No. If you double all 3 of these, you
multiply the volume by 8, not 2.
It is only necessary to double any
one of these to double the volume.
